Opening Ceremony: Friday, August 8
Opening Ceremony will take place in the Mullins Center located on the UMass Campus. Join EMCEE Steve Roulier from Western New England College, the Western Massachusetts Police Community and much more.
Olympic Town:
Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10
Cycling, Fishing and Nonotuck Park

Special thanks to the Ashland Lions for organizing and running all three Olympic Town venues.

Dance and Movie: Saturday, August 9 - 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Dance Theme: "A Salute to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing"

Movie: Cool Runnings
Dance will be held outside in the Berkshire Dinning Common Courtyard. The Movie will be located in the private dinning room of the Berkshire Dinning Common. The Southwest Café, immediately across the sidewalk from the dance, will be open selling snacks and drinks and will be available as a lounge. In the event of rain, the dance and movie will be moved to the Campus Center.

Sports Specific Information

Bocce

Saturday will be preliminary round robin divisioning play

 

Sunday teams/individuals may be re-divisioned based on Saturday’s results. Sundays medal round play will be a single elimination bracket tournament

 

Sunday will be single elimination medal round.

Fishing

 

NEW: Awards will be based on a point system this year.

 

Other special category awards will be giving out

 

Boats leave the dock at 8:00 am. After 8:00 am you must fish from the shore

 

Please remember to bring rain gear, a hat and sunscreen

Golf

 

All golf teams and individuals must have a current up-to-date handicap assigned to them through the Mass Golf Association.

 

To keep your handicap current or to obtain a handicap submit your score cards to Special Olympics MA, ATTN: Jen Maitland, 450 Old Maple Street, Building 1, Danvers, MA 01923.

 

Returning teams/individuals only need to submit four cards to keep their handicap current. New teams must submit six cards to obtain a handicap.

 

All score cards must be submitted by July 19, 2008.

Sunday’s Tee Times will be made available after competition concludes on Saturday. Times will be posted in the Dorms, Golf Course, Dance and Dinning Commons

NEW, at this year’s event, teams will be responsible to keep the score for the opposing team in their tee grouping.

 

Coaches meeting will take place Friday, 8/8 at 6:30 in the 5th floor lounge of the Washington Dormitory

Softball

No composite bats will be allowed. Umpire will have final say on legality of all bats.

 

Special thanks to USSSA for their support and umpires.

 

Coaches meetings will take place in the 5ht floor lounge of Washington Tower Dormitory; Friday 9:30 pm, Saturday 8:30 pm.

All assessment rounds throughout the state have been conducted. Only athletes who competed in assessment rounds qualify to advance to August Tournament.
