Marketing and Development Internship Program: |

Description: To provide primary support to the staff of the Marketing and Development Office. Staff includes the VP for Marketing & Development, The Director of Individual giving, the Director of Special Projects, Director of Special Events and the Director of Public Relations. Marketing Interns will work on activities relevant to fundraising and public relations and gain a solid understanding of grassroots marketing. |

Responsibilities may include: ↔Provide support for all state level fundraising events. ↔Work with vendors to procure equipment, supplies and other items necessary for a successful fundraising event. ↔Assist in the marketing of fundraising events and recruitment of event participants. ↔Assist in the marketing of auto donation program. ↔Assist in event related communications as needed e.g. press calls, press releases, thank you letters. ↔Assist in the coordination of day-to-day and bulk marketing mailings. ↔Assist with the management of news-clipping service. ↔Maintain complete and accurate records of all activities. ↔This position is an unpaid internship. Schedule and hours are flexible. |

Public Relations Internship: |
|
|
Responsibilities may include: ↔Help with pre and post-event publicity. ↔Research. ↔Help secure speaking engagements for senior management and Special Olympics athletes trained in public speaking. ↔Maintain press clippings. ↔Prepare media coverage reports. ↔Work with professional sports teams that Special Olympics has partnerships with including the Boston Breakers and the Boston Celtics. ↔Write profiles of Special Olympics participants for website and newsletter. ↔Update media lists. ↔Update collateral materials. ↔Assist Special Events Director with fundraising events. ↔Other duties associated with the public relations department |

Qualifications: A successful candidate for this internship will be someone who is well spoken, writes well and has a basic understanding of the philosophy of public relations. The public relations philosophy here at Special Olympics is not just about "getting ink," it's about maintaining and enhancing the overall perception and image of the organization.

Sports Management Internship Opportunity: |
|
|
It is our intention to provide interns with hands-on experience in the areas of developing, planning, organizing, and managing the execution of a year-round Olympic-style sports competition and training program for athletes, coaches and volunteers.
Responsibilities:
1) COMPETITION: Assist in the operation of related event management and the facilitation of volunteer event management teams ↔Facility confirmation, inspection & scheduling ↔Athlete & Coach registrations ↔Data entry, database management & mailings ↔Competition divisioning and tournament format ↔Equipment coordination ↔Attend regular meetings ↔Regular communication & interaction with volunteer event mgmt. teams
2) COACHES TRAINING: Assist in the management and implementation of the Special Olympics International Coaches Education System for over 1,000 volunteer coaches and other sport related volunteers ↔Coordinate annual coaches training school schedules in conjunction with Staff Section Directors ↔Coordinate & facilitate sport-specific coaches training schools in conjunction with the internet-based general orientation ↔Facility confirmation ↔Confirm & supervise coaches training school clinicians ↔Advertise & circulate coached training school information ↔Coaches certificate database management ↔Develop relationships with official sports organization & National Governing Bodies to ensure sports rules compliance ↔Attend Volunteer Training Chairs & Sports Advisory Committee Meetings ↔Recruit Volunteer Sports Directors |
