Welcome and thank you for your interest in SOMA. As a coach, you will take a lead role to help SOMA fulfill its mission, and in doing so you will make a major contribution to the lives of people with intellectual disabilities; a contribution that will enrich you as much as it does the athletes.
The Special Olympics Massachusetts General Orientation was designed primarily for coaches as a requirement of the SOMA Coaches Education System (CES). However, we welcome all volunteers, families, partners and other SOMA supporters to browse through the orientation as well. We hope that everyone finds it to be informative and enjoyable.
The General Orientation has been designed as 3 separate courses; each about 30-40 minutes in length and designed to be completed at one sitting or several sittings at a pace that best suits you. Each course includes narration, video clips, interactive activities, and useful links to additional resources to enhance your learning experience. Each course ends with a quiz that upon completion will show that you have completed the course and give you credit toward your SOMA CES Coach Certification.
The purpose of the orientation is to:
* Increase awareness of Special Olympics Inc. (SOI) & Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) mission, organization and programs
* Empower Coaches and others in improving the health, wellness and quality of life for athletes
* Fulfill Special Olympics North America (SONA) and Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) Coaching Education System (CES) requirements
